How to Clear the Facebook Cache

After Changing Advanced Settings on a Published post, you may have to clear the Facebook cache

Optimizing Post Performance and Facebook Sharing

Both posts (blog posts, event posts, etc) and web pages allow you to define the Share Image for Social (OG:Image) and Meta Description (OG:Description), which determine how your content appears when shared on Facebook and other social platforms. The OG:Title is automatically set based on the post or page title.

By customizing these Open Graph (OG) settings, you can control the thumbnail image, title, and description that appear in previews, ensuring your content is visually appealing and informative when shared.

With both pages and posts, anytime you add or edit the title, image, or description, it's important to update Facebook to ensure the changes appear correctly when shared.

Facebook uses caching to improve performance, which means previously shared links may not immediately reflect updates. If you notice that a shared post still shows old information, you can manually clear Facebook’s cache.

To do this, visit Facebook’s Sharing Debugger and paste the URL of the content you want to refresh. Click “Debug” and then “Scrape Again” to force Facebook to update its cached version of your content.

Steps to clear Facebook cache:

  1. Copy & Paste the URL into the text box

  2. Click Debug

  3. When the page reloads click "Fetch new scrape information" button.
