There are a lot of questions about photo size. In general, use a large enough image and we'll handle the rest!
Available for all plans on the Locable Marketing Platform
Now that you know what pictures are important for your website and content, let's discuss the image types, sizes, and orientations.
Photos should be supplied in either JPG, JPEG, or PNG format unless specified otherwise.
Responsive Images
Locable’s software is built to be responsive, which means it automatically adjusts the layout and content — including images — to look great on any screen size or device. This ensures your site is functional and visually appealing whether it's viewed on a desktop, tablet, or mobile phone.
To support this, all images uploaded to Locable are processed into multiple versions for use across different contexts. This helps optimize performance and visual consistency throughout your website.
Image Size Recommendations
-
Minimum recommended width: 1200px
-
Recommended file size: 1–5MB
-
Maximum upload size: 5MB
📌 If your image is larger than 5MB, you’ll need to resize it before uploading.
Orientation & Cropping
While square or portrait images can be used, they are more likely to be cropped to fit various containers and may not display as intended across all areas of the site. For best results, we recommend using landscape-oriented images, especially for key placements such as:
-
Hero images (the large banner at the top of your web pages)
-
Blog post main images
-
Event and promotion images
Hero images, in particular, have unique display settings and may crop or scale differently depending on screen size. This is intentional and helps maintain a consistent, polished look across devices.
Image Editing & Accessibility
You can crop and rotate images directly within Locable. Additionally, it's important to add:
-
ALT text – describes the image for screen readers and supports ADA compliance.
-
Title tags – provide additional context on hover and can support SEO.

Why We Recommend Images Without Text
When adding images to your website or sharing them online, it's best to use images without text embedded in them. This recommendation is important for two key reasons:
1. Better for SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Search engines like Google can’t read text inside an image, which means any important words (like your business name, location, or services) included in a graphic won’t help your website show up in search results. Instead, it's more effective to put important information in regular text on the page so search engines can see and use it to match your site with what people are searching for.
2. Supports ADA Compliance (Accessibility)
ADA compliance means your website is accessible to people with disabilities, including those using screen readers. Screen readers can describe an image only if there’s alternative (alt) text, but they can’t read the text that’s part of an image file itself. This makes it harder for users with visual impairments to understand what the image is trying to convey. Keeping text out of images ensures your content can be more easily understood and accessed by everyone.
Images for Event Posts
Every event post should have a main image. You can either upload a new image or browse images already uploaded to your Media Library.
Pro Tip: Always use a photo rather than an image of a flyer or document filled with text. Text embedded in images doesn't help your SEO and isn’t accessible for screen readers, which means it doesn't meet ADA compliance standards.
Important details should be included in the event description, where they can be read by search engines and assistive technologies.
When adding your image for the event, a 'preview image' will be viewed in the full Calendar. The preview image is 4:3 aspect ratio - anything larger than 640x480 will be cropped to fit. Once the event post is opened, the full image will appear.

Sharing to Google Business Profile
Our Google Business Profile integration allows you to push events to your profile and to sync your Company Data, including the logo image and hero image in About Your Business > Business Profile.
Google Business Profile images must meet these additional requirements:
-
All photos must measure a minimum of 250px on the short edge, with a file size of at least 10240 bytes.
-
These photos must be JPG or PNG.
Sharing on Facebook
To ensure your content looks great when shared on Facebook, we recommend following their current guidelines:
Recommended share image size: At least 1200 x 630 pixels for optimal display on high-resolution devices.
This size helps ensure your image appears sharp and correctly formatted in the post preview.
Fixing Incorrect Share Images
If Facebook is showing the wrong image when you share a page, it may be because the preview hasn't updated. You can force Facebook to refresh the preview by using their Sharing Debugger tool:
-
Visit the link above.
-
Paste in the exact URL of your page.
-
Click "Debug", then click "Scrape Again" to prompt Facebook to refresh the preview.
This is especially useful after updating your content or images.
