Adding categories to your events helps users quickly find the events they’re interested in.

Categories help people discover your events by topic, interest, or type. They make the calendar more organized and user-friendly, helping attendees find the events that matter to them, like workshops, concerts, sports events, family-friendly activities, and more.

Creating Event Categories

You will need to begin by creating your event categories. This can be done by going to Account Settings > Manage Categories. You can find the step-by-step process of how to add your categories here.

Adding Categories to Your Event Posts

Once your event categories are created, you can add categories to your event post when you create or edit them.

You can find the step-by-step process of how to add and update your event posts here.

Event Categories in a Community Calendar

If your event is shared on a Community Calendar or another organization’s calendar with event categories, you will have the option to self-select the most relevant category for your event from their available options.

This lets you tailor your listing to the specific interests of that community, making your events more discoverable.

By categorizing, you ensure your events reach the right audience, making your listings easier to browse and filter.

When there are events in your calendar that have been categorized, users will be able to search and filter by category:

NOTE: Only categories with published events in that category will appear on this list. If you have a category with no current published events, the category will not appear as a filter option.

Additional Tips for Categorizing Events

  • Be Specific: Choose the most relevant category (or categories) for your event. This improves visibility with the right audience.
  • Avoid Over-Categorizing: Adding too many categories can confuse users. Stick to one or two key categories for clarity.
  • Keep It Updated: If an event changes focus, remember to update its category to keep listings accurate.
