What Events and Businesses Appear on My Publisher Website?

Control which events and businesses appear on your site by customizing your feed settings

Available on the Locable Publishing Platform

Your calendar and business directory are connected to Locable’s nationwide database, ensuring a robust selection of local events and businesses for your community. By default, both pull in results based on:

  • Your site’s default home zip code

  • A defined radius around that home zip code (specified in miles)

How to Adjust Your Feed Settings

To ensure your calendar and directory stay as hyperlocal, or as regionally broad, as needed, you can adjust your default ZIP code and radius settings.

  1. Go to Settings > General > Feeds

  2. Update your site’s Home Zip Code and Home Location Radius to match your intended coverage area.

  3. Scroll down and click Update Settings to save your changes.

Important: Changing Your Radius Does Not Remove Existing Listings

Your Home Location Radius is used to identify and moderate new businesses and events that may be included on your website.

Once a business or event has been approved and added, changing the radius does not automatically remove it, even if it falls outside the new radius.

Example: If your radius was previously set to 25 miles and you reduce it to 5 miles, businesses and events already included from outside the 5-mile radius will remain on your site until they are manually removed.

The updated radius will only affect future businesses and events identified for moderation and inclusion.

This behavior is intentional and helps prevent approved businesses and events from being automatically removed when your coverage area or inclusion criteria change.

Using Geocoordinates to Set Your Coverage Region

NOTE: The geo coordinates feature is currently in beta and only applies to the Directory feed at the moment. Functionality may change as we continue to improve it.

If your community isn’t accurately represented by a single zip code and radius, you can set geocoordinates using a polygon instead.

  1. In Settings > General > Feeds, look for the Geo Coordinates (Advanced) - Beta section.

  2. Use our linked polygon-drawing tool to outline your coverage area on a map.

    • This allows you to include an exact city, county, or custom-shaped region.

    • Anything inside your polygon will be included.

    • Anything outside will be excluded.

  3. Scroll down to click 'Update Settings' to save your changes.

How to Create and Install My Custom Geo Coordinates

Go to Settings > General > Feeds and open the linked Polygon Mapping Tool (also provided in your Locable account).

  1. Key in an address or zip code

  2. Click 'New Polygon' to create a new region

  3. Use the map to draw a polygon that outlines the exact area you want to include.

    • Click points on the map to set the boundaries.

    • The shape will “close” automatically when you finish connecting your points.

  4. Copy the polygon data (a list of latitude/longitude points) that the tool generates.

Once your region is defined and you've copied teh data, return to your Locable account and go to Settings > General > Feeds.

  1. Paste the polygon data into the Geo Coordinates field using the following as an example of how to format the details:

    [[38.6865126, -121.2258723], [38.7082165, -121.1723140], [38.6449621, -121.0888866], [38.6382582, -121.1929134]]

  2. Scroll down to click 'Update Settings' to save your changes.

NOTE: When you set geo coordinates, it replaces the zip code & radius setting. Only the area inside the polygon will be used for your feed.

Zip Code/Radius vs. Geo Coordinates - Which Should You Use?

  • Zip Code and Radius: Best for straightforward coverage (e.g., one town or city center).

  • Geo Coordinates: Best for multi-zip communities, border areas, or when you need precise control over which towns/regions are included.
