An anchor link, also known as a jump link, is a type of hyperlink on a webpage that, when clicked, directs the user to a specific section of the same webpage or to a specific section of another webpage. Anchor links are useful for navigating long pages, allowing users to quickly jump to the content they are interested in.

Imagine you have a long webpage with several sections. You can use anchor links to allow users to jump to each section quickly.

Setting up an Anchor Link

Assign an ID to the Target Element

An anchor link requires a target element on the page. This is the 'landing spot' for your anchor link - the place you want to jump your user to.

Go to Website > Manage Webpages and open the page you wish to link to. Then, find the specific block of content you want the link to route to and click the gear icon in the toolbar:

Then create an ID (any simple word relative to the content you are linking to) in the Set an ID for a Custom Anchor link (Advanced) space and click Save.

Be sure to then Save the changes to your page.

The anchor is now set for the identified content block.

NOTE: This option is currently only available in Content Blocks or Columns. It will be available soon for Simple Text blocks and Embeds.

Create the Anchor Link

Next, you need to create a link that references the ID of the target element. The link that points to the target element includes the pathname of the webpage along with a hash symbol (#) followed by the ID of the target element. For example:

  • On your Membership page you create an anchor link to jump the user to the Membership Options. You have added the ID as Options.

The specific anchor link would be '/membership#options'

Apply the Anchor Link

Now, you can apply the Anchor Link as a hyperlink on any page of your website.

For example, you can go to the text on any page and edit it to create a hyperlink. Simply highight the text to use for the hyperlink and click the icon in the text editor to create a link:

Then use the Anchor Link as the URL for the hyperlink.

Be sure to save the changes to your page when you're done.
